Our Insurance Carriers: Society
In 1915, a group of Madison, Wis., thresher-men decided they had enough. After struggling to purchase workers compensation insurance for their employees due to the high risk of injury in their jobs, the thresher crews banded together to form their own insurance company.
Known by the descriptive (if not brief or catchy) Wisconsin Brotherhood of Thresher-men Company, Limited Mutual, the fledgling business moved to Fond du Lac, Wis., in 1918 and set up shop in the home of one of its employees. That year, the company declared its first surplus in the amount of $301.69.
While the name has changed and the company has, our steadfast commitment to policy holders has never wavered.
